The Indian national calendar, also known as the Shalivahana Shaka calendar is in use, alongside the Gregorian calendar, by The Gazette of India, in news broadcasts by AIR and in calendars and communications given by the Indian Government. The 2nd solar group begins on the Sidereal Equinox, that balances for the wobble in the earth tilt. It origins close to April 14. The initial lunar group commences on the full moon after the equinox. This is what Holi, observed as new year in Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand & Chhattisgarh.

The 2nd lunar group falls on the new moon annexing the equinox. The festival of Ugadi in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Konkan; Navreh in Kashmir & Vishu in Manipur.

And atlast, Gujrat begins its calendar on Diwali, that comes on a new moon in autumn.
